Anxiety Management
for Children and Preteens
Services
Significant anxiety for a child can be stressful for the whole family. While individual therapy for your child is often the type of therapy recommended, at times parent consultation sessions, group sessions, or a combination of these makes the most sense. No matter what the service type, I include parents in each of our sessions. These different types of service are described below.
Therapy Services
Typically, I will meet with parents during the first appointment to discuss your child including what's great about him or her and your particular concerns. We will create goals for therapy and discuss the typical process of meetings and therapeutic intervention.

After the first meeting I will tailor the therapy to your child's particular needs. I will meet with your child to understand his or her view of the situation and to begin to teach strategies and tools. Parents or guardians are involved in most sessions: sharing new concerns or being taught the new strategies their son or daughter has just learned. Often parents comment that the specific strategies help them too!
As part of this process, we will also schedule regular parent-only check-in sessions to discuss how therapy is going and to update our goals and plans.
Parent Consultation
Sometimes it makes sense for parents or guardians to meet with me without their child. We discuss strengths and concerns. I am happy to share ideas and strategies for parents or guardians to try at home with their children. Through discussion we may even discover that what was considered a concern is part of typical development. These consultation sessions can be one meeting, several weekly sessions, or check-in sessions on an as-needed basis.

Group Therapy
Occasionally I run support groups for parents of children with anxiety. Please contact me for dates and times of any upcoming groups.
